Do Remember Me

Do Remember Me is a sixty-minute edited compilation of oral interviews from black New Mexico seniors of Las Cruces, Roswell, Clovis and Albuquerque. The stories they share are of their personal history and the history of their region of New Mexico. Along with the audio recording, a transcribed version of their interviews is provided in a companion booklet.
By listening to the voices of these black elders and reviewing the related pictures and text it is hoped that many students of history, particularly black students, will gain a new respect for their elders and a fresh perspective on just what history is and how it relates to them personally.

While Do Remember Me, the first half of this project, concentrated on seniors of the eastern and southern sections of the State and was, to my mind, rural in its focus. Do Remember Me Too explores the lives of African Americans residing in Albuquerque and in the western region of the State. This segment also inquires into the history of relationships between blacks and native Americans in the State.
Do Remember Me 2 will provide teacher and librarians with an approach to history that will enable them to demonstrate to the student the connectedness of history with the living citizens of his/her family and community.
